SUMMARY

Dr. Irene Kamanja is a Veterinary Pharmacologist and Toxicologist with over 30 years of experience in academia, veterinary public service, research, and institutional leadership. She holds a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology and has extensive experience in teaching, postgraduate supervision, and scholarly research in veterinary pharmacology and toxicology.

She currently serves as Chairperson of the Department of Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology at Egerton University. Her academic leadership experience includes curriculum development and review, quality assurance, ethics review, and governance at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Dr Kamanja has supervised MSc and PhD candidates and contributed to peer-reviewed research in medicinal plants, toxicology, aflatoxin control, animal nutrition, and agricultural policy.

FIELDS OF SPECIALIZATION

Pharmacology and Toxicology:

Dr. Irene Kamanja’s primary area of specialization is ethnopharmacology, with additional research focus on drug residues, a critical field in advancing antimicrobial resistance mitigation and the One Health approach. Her scholarly work has contributed to peer-reviewed publications addressing medicinal plants, toxicology, aflatoxin control, animal nutrition, and agricultural policy.
